Description

What’s better in the cold of winter than a great bowl of chili and some cornbread on the side? So this year, for the chili cook-off, we have added a cornbread bake-off to go along with the chili cook-off. You can enter one or both competitions and maybe go home with the honor of claiming the best chili or cornbread at LRBC!

How It Works

Bring your entry/entries with you when you come to church on Sunday, February 1st. Chili entries should come in the crockpot so they can be plugged in to stay warm until lunch time. 

You will be given an entry form when you arrive where you will provide your name and the name of your entry (chili or cornbread) such as “Texas Hot Stuff”. This entry form assigns you a number you will use to label your entry for people to sample (your name is kept a secret). 

After completing your entry form, you will complete the Entry Card with the same number where you will provide the Chili Name and description. This also includes a “Spiciness” meter to help you let people know how spicy your entry is. This tent card will be placed next to your entry on the sample table. Plug in your crockpot and set it to keep your entry warm and place the entry tent card next to your entry.

The Competition

After a fiery sermon from the pastor at the 11:10 am worship service, everyone is invited to come to the Fellowship Hall to enjoy, sample, and vote on their favorite entries. Everyone will be provided tickets which they will place in the cup next to their favorite(s). 

The Decision

While the judges are counting votes, Pastor Brian will hold a short program to introduce you to the new Department Directors in the new LRBC Ministry Structure. Over dessert, you will have the opportunity to meet with directors and ministry leaders and learn more about ministry at LRBC.

The Great Reveal

After the votes have been tallied, honorable mention certificates will be presented leading up to the Great Reveal of the 2026 Best Chili and 2026 Best Cornbread of the year at LRBC! Make sure to stick around and finish off the chili and cornbread entries and dessert of course!
